About Becky

Booface

At the age of 11, Becky received a portable tape recorder for Christmas from her unsuspecting parents.  Little could they know it would be the one gift that would change her life.  She carried this tape recorder with her everywhere, making up continuous songs about everything from boys to orphanages.  Not before long, she added a second tape recorder to her “repertoire” and learned how to multi track her voice.  She wrote song after song for the sheer joy of creating complex 5 to 6 part harmonies.  The songs had no accompaniment, except the ticking of a metronome to keep the beat.  Thus began her love of vocal production, harmonic structure and a cappella choral music.

Becky began singing with her two older sisters, skillfully performing songs by the Andrews Sisters, the Lennon Sisters and others in three-part harmony. In her teens, she was actively engaged in stage performances, playing leads in school and community musicals. Becky was a participant in the various choirs at her high school, from Concert Choir to the elite Madrigal Choir. All of this experience nurtured her love of music and the beauty of multiple harmonies, guiding her decision to become a High School choir director.

She was offered a full tuition music scholarship at Weber State University. She pursued a Bachelor of Art’s in Music Education with Choral emphasis. Becky excelled within the department, receiving accolades and additional scholarships because of her abilities.  She was featured as a soloist on many occasions in the University’s Concert Choir and Chamber Choir and was invited to be a member of the schools 8 member Vocal Jazz Ensemble. When the Jazz Ensemble was discontinued, Becky was elementary in forming an independent a cappella jazz ensemble called “Cold Fusion”, not only as an organizer and performer, but also as an arranger and transcriber.  In addition, she was in the Utah Opera Chorus for the 1999-2000 seasons.

Parallel to her choral experience, Becky opened her private vocal studio in 1990.  Not only did she begin to teach private voice, she also began to flourish as a singer. She entered and placed in contests, including NATS, NATSSA, Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions and, most notably, placed first in the Mozart Festival in Park City, UT.  She has always been active in her community and church as a voice teacher and choir director. The opportunity arrived to join an aspiring pop singer as a vocal coach, songwriter, producer and back-up singer, which brought her to San Diego. She soon became known as a talented studio vocalist, being hired often by production companies for backing vocals and commercial spots. Not long after establishing herself in San Diego she met Ken Rash, and married him soon thereafter. He is an accomplished guitarist, recording engineer, songwriter and producer.  Together, they formed the company Active Audio & Entertainment offering various music services; songwriting, producing, recording studio, vocal studio and artist development.

These days, Becky is assisting www.a-Cappella.com by recording SSAA songs in their catalog, to be sold as learning CD’s.  The discs are used to aid singers in learning their parts.  She’s also a featured vocalist on www.vocaldownloads.com, where samples of her vocals and harmonies are available for people to download.

Becky is finishing her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance at San Diego State University.
